Silica-free engineered stone benchtops in Brisbane.

The marble looks and low maintenance of engineered stone — without the crystalline silica. Every engineered range we fabricate is crystalline silica free (under 1%) and compliant with Australia's 2024 ban, cut and installed from our Oxley workshop across South East Queensland.

The short version

What is silica-free engineered stone?

It is a new generation of engineered surface made without the crystalline silica that traditional engineered stone relied on. Suppliers label it crystalline silica free — meaning under 1% crystalline silica content — and some brand it as a mineral surface. You keep everything people liked about engineered stone: consistent colour, marble-look designs, a non-porous surface and low maintenance. You just lose the health hazard that got the old product banned.

Why it matters

Why the 2024 silica ban changed everything

In 2024 Australia prohibited the traditional high-silica engineered stone, because cutting and polishing it in the workshop releases fine crystalline silica dust — the cause of silicosis, a serious and irreversible lung disease affecting stonemasons. The ban protects the people who fabricate benchtops for a living.

Crystalline silica-free surfaces answer that problem directly: with under 1% crystalline silica, they remove the hazard at the source, so they can be fabricated and installed safely and legally. They are the only engineered ranges we work with — which means you get a modern, compliant kitchen and a supply chain you can feel good about.

The ranges

The silica-free ranges we fabricate

We work with YDL, Stone Ambassador, Lithostone, Lavistone and AC Stone — surface brands offering crystalline silica-free, marble-look ranges built for everyday Australian kitchens. Between them you have an extensive palette of colours and finishes, from clean contemporary whites to dramatic veined statement slabs.

Not sure which brand or colour suits your kitchen? That is exactly the sort of thing we help with — bring us your plans and how you use the space, and we will match you to a range and finish.

Living with it

Looks, durability & maintenance

Silica-free engineered stone is non-porous, so it never needs sealing — a quick wipe with mild soap and water keeps it looking new. It resists scratches and everyday stains, holds a consistent colour across your whole kitchen, and gives you a reliable marble look without the etching that natural marble can develop.

Like any engineered surface it is an indoor product — for a benchtop that lives outside in the Queensland sun, sintered stone or porcelain is the family you want. Use a board for cutting and a trivet for hot cookware, and it will look after you for years.

Made to measure

Fabrication, edges & thickness

We fabricate in 20mm and 40mm, with 20mm mitred to a chunkier 40mm-plus look where you want it. Edge profiles include pencil round, aris, bullnose, half bullnose, lambs tongue, shark nose and mitred, with 40–100mm apron build-ups — and mitred waterfall ends and seamless undermount cut-outs are all done in-house at Oxley.

Silica-free FAQ

Common questions.

What is silica-free engineered stone?+

It is a new generation of engineered surface made without the crystalline silica used in traditional engineered stone. Suppliers label it crystalline silica free — meaning under 1% crystalline silica content. You get the consistent colour and marble looks people love about engineered stone, without the health risk that led to the ban.

Is engineered stone banned in Australia?+

The traditional high-silica engineered stone was prohibited in 2024 because cutting it releases crystalline silica dust that causes silicosis. Newer crystalline silica-free surfaces — under 1% crystalline silica — fall outside that ban and are safe to fabricate and install. Those are the only engineered ranges we supply.

Is silica-free stone safe for my home and for fabricators?+

Yes. The health concern with old engineered stone was the silica dust created when it is cut and polished in the workshop — a risk to fabricators. Crystalline silica-free surfaces remove that hazard at the source, and the finished benchtop in your kitchen is inert either way.

Does silica-free engineered stone still look like marble and last?+

Yes. The ranges we fabricate come in beautiful, consistent marble-look designs, are non-porous and hard-wearing, and hold their colour without the natural variation of stone. For a busy family kitchen it is one of the best value, lowest-maintenance choices available.

Do I need to seal silica-free engineered stone?+

No. Like other engineered and sintered surfaces it is non-porous, so it needs no sealing — just everyday cleaning with mild soap and water. Use a board for cutting and a trivet for hot cookware, as you would with any engineered surface.
